Election Day in Massachusetts: Lets Get Out the Vote for Martha

This post was written by WCF Fellow, Stephanie Glover

There is only one election going on Tuesday and it’s an exciting one; Massachusetts is holding a special election to fill the late Senator Ted Kennedy’s seat. WCF-endorsed candidate Martha Coakley is vying to win the Democratic primary tomorrow. In the staunchly Democratic state, a win in the primary is virtual lock on the general election—if Martha wins tomorrow, she’ll be on track to be the first female senator from Massachusetts. Tomorrow, you can be part of this historic vote.

This Tuesday primary comes at the end of an exciting weekend for Martha. She received two important and influential endorsements from former President Bill Clinton and feminist leader, Gloria Steinem. Here are just a couple reasons that people like Bill Clinton and Gloria Steinem, and organizations like the Women’s Campaign Forum, are energized about Martha Coakley:

  • She has dedicated the last 20 years of her life to public service
  • She is committed to health care reform
  • She plans to improve the economy
  • And, she supports the rights and equality of women

Martha is on her way to making history. But, first she needs all of her supporters to go out and vote. The sad nature of special elections is that they typically have really, really low turnout. MA Secretary of State predicted that voting may be as low as only 300,000 voters. This means your vote is more important than ever! Make history with Martha and don’t forget to vote tomorrow.
