Women and Politics

A blog from WCF about the state of women and politics

Netroots Nation Day 1

We have arrived at Netroots Nation in Pittsburgh! The conference is off to a great start, and already we’ve already had about 30 women asked to run for office through our She Should Run program.

We’re meeting a ton of amazing bloggers who will ask their readers to tell women leaders they know to run for office - helping to fill the political pipeline full of women.

The Women’s Caucus this morning was a great opportunity to talk about the issues that matter to women. Naturally, health care was a hot topic, and a great example of why we need more women in elected office to ensure that women’s needs are properly addressed.

It’s already been uplifting to meet so many people whose faces light up when you talk about getting more women to consider running for office. We had several women sign themselves up for She Should Run right on the spot.

WCF-endorsed candidate Jennifer Brunner is also here - we had a great discussion with her about the hurdles she’s faced since making the decision to run for office. We asked her why she first ran for office. Her answer? Because she was asked.

Now she’s the first woman Secretary of State of Ohio and running for Senate. All becaused someone asked her to run. Get the idea? Ask a woman leader you know to run TODAY!
