Pelosi: Know Your Power
The first female Speaker of the House has slammed through gender barriers. Now she’s sharing her inspiring story and encouraging more women to be involved in politics.
“One of the reasons I’m spending a couple days on this is we really need more women in government,” Pelosi told “Good Morning America.” “I want to reach out in my book and give some guidance” to women.
In her new book, “Know Your Power: A Message to America’s Daughters,” Nancy Pelosi talks about her journey into public office, and how a Congresswoman and good friend motivated her to strive for greatness. ABC News offers this excerpt:
“Sometimes it takes the encouragement of someone who knows us well to propel us forward in ways we never would have dreamed. I was confident in my abilities and accomplishments, but Sala’s faith in me was so unshakable that it made me determined to live up to it.”
This is the exact idea behind WCF’s nomination program, She Should Run. Often women enter the political arena because someone they respect suggested it. WCF encourages people to nominate qualified women for public office - even women who never considered running - just like Nancy Pelosi:
“And so I ran for Congress–and won. I was forty-seven years old, a mother of five, happily married, and never–not even once–thinking or wanting this to happen to me.”
